- There are two groups of minerals:
- #1 Bulk Minerals
|
- Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Potassium and Phosphorus. These
bulk minerals are needed in larger amounts.
|
- #2 Trace Minerals
|
- Boron, Chromium, Copper, Germanium, Iodine, Manganese, Molybdenum,
Schentum, Silicon, Sulfur, Vanadium, and Zinc.
|
- All minerals are stored primarily in your horses body
and muscle tissues. So it is very possible for your horse
to develop mineral toxicity especially if large quantities are
consumed by your horse. Of course such situations are very rare
but it does happen with horses when trained and kept confined
and supplemented massive mineral amounts for a prolonged period
of time.
-
- Now you must realize and be aware that when minerals are
absorbed they must be carried by the blood cells and then transported
across the cell membranes in a form that can be assimilated by
the cells after the minerals enter the body. They compete
with one another for absorption. For example, too much zinc can
deplete your horses body of copper and too much calcium will
affect the absorption of magnesium. When you provide your
horse supplemental minerals they should always be provided in
balanced quantities.
